Protein-protein interactions comprise a large class of pharmaceutical targets with significant therapeutic potential. Drugs for such targets are currently dominated by large macromolecular compounds such as the natural receptor, the natural ligand or monoclonal antibodies. These molecules are predominantly delivered by injection. Many therapeutically-promising targets addressable by large molecules are difficult, if not impossible, to modulate with small molecules. Protagonist Therapeutics has developed a platform capable of generating novel peptide-based drugs, capable of modulating these targets, with properties suitable for oral delivery.
